Maarten De Groote

Maarten De Groote has over 20 years of experience driving the energy transition in the built environment. As Programme Manager at VITO/EnergyVille, he leads two teams: one focused on technology innovation in ‘Construction Robotics and Innovative Building Envelopes’ and the other on research related to ‘Built Environment, Climate & Energy Policies,’ emphasizing societal impact. Maarten also coordinates the European oPEN Lab project, advancing the transition to Positive Energy Neighbourhoods. His combined expertise in innovation and policy within the construction sector, as well as in energy-efficient, sustainable, and smart buildings and districts, has successfully brought these critical issues into the European spotlight. Maarten holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Design and a postgraduate qualification in Energy & Climate, consolidating his transversal and out-of-the-box approach.
